I am a little late to introduce my Poppy Pink Quilt pattern but to be totally honest, I clean forgot!
This pattern was released originally as part of the 2025 Patchwork Calendar which was available for a limited time this year back in October.
I think this distracted me from my usual pattern release steps.
So here I am and I have lots of photos to share.
The Poppy Pink quilt pattern is made using only 3 fabrics and lots of strip piecing.
This means it comes together super quickly and is heaps of fun.
I really wanted to design a simple quilt for a change that packs a huge punch.
The use of only three colours is something that I don't usually do and especially not in solids, but I am really love the finished look.
The finished quilt size is 78” x 78” (200cms x 200cms).
This pattern doesn't have multiple sizes because of the strip piecing. I did calculate all the options but there was just too much fabric wastage for my liking.
I made another version of this quilt using all of my Ruby Star Society Fabrics.
This quilt began because I was gifted a Ruby Star Society 10 Year anniversary panel and the measurements just happened to work perfectly with my Poppy Pink pattern.
This quilt is the complete opposite to my orginal strip pieced version and it took forever to cut out!
All the fussy cut squares are gorgeous but they do take a long time. There was no stacking and wacking with this quilt.
The third version, which I just finished binding last night, is a citrus party!
I also choose another spectacular fabric for the back of this quilt.
The contrast of a big beautiful floral to the geometric shapes on the front, make me very happy.
It would also be a great way to choose the fabrics for the front, if you picked the backing first!
I decided on this green stripe for the binding, and although it didn't match perfectly with the greens on the front, it still was the winner for me.
All three versions were also quilted by me on my domestic sewing machine.
I used all straight lines but different variations of horizontal, vertical and diagonal.
It's my favourite way to quilt and I love the way it looks.
If you have never tried strip piecing, this quilt would be the perfect introduction to the technique.
I hope you love this pattern as much as I do, and I can't wait to see all of your versions.
